Always i love to frame Woodpeckers and made a wishlist to click Endemic birds in Shri Lanka.even thought for places where we can click these endemic birds.<br />
Our flight landed around at 5.30am at <span style="color: black; font-family: "calibri" , "helvetica" , sans-serif , serif , "emojifont"; font-size: 12pt; letter-spacing: 0.1pt;">Bandaranaike International Airport Kandy</span>.we missed the early morning sunrise due to bad timing of arrival of Sri Lankan airlines.after clearing all procedure we came out of airport but our tour guide cum leader was delayed by 30-40min.We have option to check in at hotel for refreshment or go on as our schedule,we were already late so choose 2nd option even though we didn't sleep in flight.<br />
We reached around at 10am at Elephant Orphanage,<span style="color: #666666; font-family: "open sans" , serif , "emojifont"; font-size: 10pt; letter-spacing: 0.1pt;"><span class="m_-1915409918629083618x_x_xitineraryeditattractiontext" style="color: black; font-family: "calibri" , "helvetica" , sans-serif , serif , "emojifont"; font-size: 12pt;">Pinnawela.saw few baby to sub adult elephant there as they were lost in jungle and feed here till they become adult and drop them in jungle.i was looking for birds and hear call but didn't sighted except Sri Lanka Jungle Babbler.while we were returning towards our Mini bus,entered in small garden and Dr.Pragnesh sighted this beauty,i was searching birds slightly away from him.he shout and asked to rush there to click as woodpeckers normally jump one branch to another.i ran towards him and click 3-4 shots but as i wrote it jumped inside the next tree. as i have no good shot,walked towards this beauty and got at least one shot.</span></span><br />

i was ready for flycatchers at Shoolpaneshwar even though my camera badly needs service.date was fixed as 27/01/18 and reach Viren's House for night stay around at 12.30am,where Pragnesh was already there.he came from silvasa.we had plan to sleep early to get up early in the morning but we were talking till 2.30am.<br />
Although we get ready at 5am and all set,even Abhay came from his home n waiting for us.reached Netrang around at 6.30am and took tea break then started our journey towards sanctuary.i as searching for sunrise photo from hill area and little bit succeed.we reached at checkpost around at 7.30am and paid for car n camera fee.now we were in the wildlife sanctuary and searching was begins.we had sighted pair of grey wolf,buzzard in our journey before we stopped at our favorite spot where we always stop.<br />
we were searching for flycatchers,sighted but not wish list bird so walked inside and sudden Pragnesh saw Woodpeckers ,all were there except me so i also reached there but it fly away.i just walk further away and sighted this beauty in pair.they were digging holes in tree to feed parasites.i was lucky to frame it.<br />

Dr.Pragnesh Patel is friend since we were in MBBS at Baroda and now we are birding friend too.i had clicked Malabar Trogon male and Female last year,since that time i was failed to fulfill his dream to click Malabar Trogon.<br />
Malabar Trogon sighted in Vansda National Park during Summer and This Year some birders had clicked so again Pragnesh tried to click it there.He went alone on 23/04/17 and he sighted but missed to click.don't know what but luck or whatever,he called me and i was ready as promised last year.<br />
i was at Vansda with my close friend Viren Desai from Bardoli,he came with his son Ansh,he is 15yrs old n he also do birding.we reached at our regular meeting point of one hotel around at 6.20am after drive of 140km.ordered a tea,while tea was ready n come on our table Pragnesh Came from Silvasa.<br />
After drinking our tea,we were on the way to vansda National Park,which was 15km away from Vansda.did our entry and Pragnesh parked his Ciaz then ready our camera with proper settings.Dawn all Window glass of my XUV500 and our journey began.i was driving,<br />
Viren was beside me,Pragnesh was back seat of Viru and Ansh was on back seat of me.we were talking regarding  future birding n we all saw one woodpecker crossed us and i told "i have shot White-naped Woodpecker in single frame but that time i was newbie in wildlife and i have 600D,also didn't know the proper settings so that shot was full of noise n soft." so i want a good shot of it.<br />
we had driven approx of 1.5km and Pragnesh sighted a Woodpecker, told me to stop the cheetah so i did.he was unable to sight it due to it was on top of tall tree and it was hiding behind the leaf,so Pragnesh told me to Reverse the car,again i did,still result was same so Pragnesh n Viren came out of car n trying to focus it.after 1+min both got succeed in click but failed to id it coz of side poss n i told for Lesser Flamback so sit in car and we can go ahead while i completed my last word, Pragnesh clicked back pose n told me that"it's a White-naped Woodpecker" so i came out hurriedly n trying to focus it but failed as we were exact below the tree. so i ran at other side, from where i can see back pose of it n clicked shot but not up to my mark and it flew away.luckily not go far away from me.now i can see it clearly and called my friends.we all clicked more than 30 shots with different different angles and frame.<br />

When you get something unexpected after your effort in real jungle,happiness is increased more than infinite.This is not a studio pic of  Ganeshgudi/Sattal or from any other location but its from Vansda National Park,where luck and timing play major role where as  light,bushes are main enemy.<br />
We mostly manage Birding trip to specific area with close friends and my close buddies are Dr.Pankaj Maheria, Viren Desai, Hiren Joshi,Dharmesh Kadiwala,Pragnesh Patel and Abhay Naik.<br />

we reached at DK's Farm and night chit chat was on for so many future plans and time passes.we realize that we should take sleep but it was 5am so continued our talks.<br />
Around 5.15am,old thought of mine came again n it was,i have to frame train and we at our location but we all have zoom lens so didn't succeed.around 6.30am returned to town and take a tea.Then drive towards Vansda National Park.we entered in Park and waited for Pragnesh as he was coming from Silvasa.He came around at 7.30am and parked his car then we all moved in my XUV.<br />
After drive of 2km,we had sighted pair of Emerald Dove,clicked some shots and moved ahead.after drive of 1km, Pankaj Came behind us.he came from Patan and stayed at Ankleshvar.We shake hand and hug with my close buddy as we meet after 5month.<br />

When you have best gear and light was perfect,you always get best shot.Here is one of best shot from my last trip.<br />

27th November was lucky day for me coz i had clicked 9th out of 10 woodpecker sighted in Gujarat and Total Birds clicked only in Gujarat reached 305.plan was made and changed time to time and finally i was entered in Vansda National Park around at 8am with Virenbhai,Pragnesh and Yogesh.<br />
After entering more inside the park by driving my cheetah, i thought many are right...not to go at Vansda National Park till December end coz it was totally green in all side, sunlight was hardly coming down, trees are much taller and 6-7 leopards were sighted there.<br />
Till 11.45am we had sighted Jungle owlet, puff-throated babbler, Indian paradise flycatcher and other bird due to extreme low light shots were not upto my marks. then we were thought to in another trap but due to heavy rain during monsoon, road was washed n broken so we parked  at one point and walked nearby.sudden i hear a sound of heart-spotted woodpecker and we clicked more then 50shots with different different angle and light.while we were clicking it,we hear a dog like barking sound and many monkeys were jumping one to another tree and i thought for leopard so we hurriedly walked towards my car.<br />
After 5min all sounds were clear,we find nothing so thought to go inside further.this time Viren was not feeling well so he sit in car. myself and Pragnesh went again there.Pragnesh told that here he had clicked many flycatchers n sudden i hear a sound of White-bellied Woodpecker and spotted but it was far away even we clicked record shot as i had visited Vansda National Park 4-5 times but i was not lucky to click this beauty.after record shot very carefully we approached for good shot with hiding ourself behind the tree but we noticed and it fly away.<br />
i thought for bad luck as clicked shots but all shows half body of it.after 30min again it come back from different side but now at on other tree.it was now in low light but i was lucky to click full body shot.<br />

Birding with bird watchers gives exclusive feelings.Since long time i was wanna go birding with Prof.Pravinbhai and Prof.Anilbhai, it was sudden plan.<br />
<span data-offset-key="av4sv-0-0"><span data-text="true">On 17/07/16  </span></span>i got a call from Prof.Pravinbhai around at 10am to get ready to go at his village and we went there with Prof.Anilbhai.Pravinbhai had a fracture in his left leg but manage for me.around 12.30pm reached at his home.<br />
after reaching there get fresh and Anilbhai ask to took camera,and we inside his farm.sighted IPFC,Scaly-breasted Munia,Tailor Bird,Ashy Prinia,Grey-breasted Prinia,etc bird.due to cloudy weather with showering of rain and trees, unable to take good shot.Pravinbhai called Anilbhai to returned home for lunch.it was a memorable taste.<br />
After getting lunch,we take little rest and around at 3pm we went for a special bird.it was around 4-5km away.parked car at one side of road near a grassland and i came out with Anilbhai.i saw a strange as Anilbhai came with only Binocular and Pravinbhai was unable walk for long distance so he was sitting there in his car.what a dedication for me,salute to both person.<br />
Pravinbhai told us to go inside the grassland to sighting of special bird for me,so we entered from far,i was behind Anilbhai and sighted a Brahminy Myna at eye level and cudnt stop myself to frame so very carefully went closure and took good shot.thought for closure shot and walked little and sudden one bird from grass fly away.when i focus n clicked that bird and seen towards Anilbhai,he told me its a Yellow-crowned Woodpecker.<br />
He asked me to approach very carefully, i did and result is here.<br />

i was busy in clicking Darter with Aneeket,Dharmeshbhai,Hirenbhai and Virenbhai. my frnd Pankaj called me to come at meeting point for presentation so we were returning. after walking of 10-15steps,i met with great photographers...Vivekbhai Mansata, Dilipbhai Chudasama and Nirav Pomal.they were clicking some birds n i asked for which bird,they told me its white-browed Bulbul.i ignored clicking as i clicked it,sudden i seen common woodshrike and went there for close shot,all of them came there but it fly away.within few seconds one red-yellow colored bird came close to us n we all get ready to frame.it was great moment coz we all were following this beauty and it was Lesser Goldenback (Female).<br />

While we were 2-5 km away from Zarwani Waterfall as i had mentioned that stopped my car for Minivet. i saw a very tiny bird jumping on branches of tree from far n thought for Woodpecker.i was right when i clicked 1st shot,it was a Brown-capped Pygmy Woodpecker.<br />
size is just 13cm.<br />
it is very difficult to focus due to its small size n active,even though i took 10+shots.<br />

Sometimes you get lottery for nothing. i was searching White-rumped Shama, i find White-naped Woodpecker Male and Female and find this black colored bird was going upwards by small jumps on tree branch,it was far away so ignored at first time but try to focus and click so i had taken 3shots handheld.even didn't seen in cam display and i walked ahead. after 2 days i had transferred pic to pc,i am so disappointed after looking this beauty...why i had avoid to click this beauty?????<br />

It was my 2nd trip to Vansda National park for birding on 31st May'15. i was searching for White-rumped Shama where i saw during my last visit and sudden this couple came in my radar.<br />
it was very difficult to take duo pic as male was very active n moving fast.so took only 2 shots of this duo.<br />
